Teens on Momint

Keeping hangouts fun and safe.

Who can use Momint

You need to be 16 or older to use Momint. This is the same everywhere Momint is available. We ask for your date of birth when you sign up and check it on our servers, not just in the app, so changing the app cannot get around it. On an iPhone, we also check it against the age range on your Apple Account, if you share it. If we find out an account belongs to someone under 16, we'll delete it.

Parents and guardians: if you think your child under 16 has a Momint account, email us at safety@momintapp.com with their username and we'll look into it.

How we protect 16 and 17-year-olds

These protections are built into Momint's servers, so they apply whatever app version you are using.

  • No public hangouts. If you're under 18 you can't see public hangouts, search for them, find them on the map, open one, join one, be invited to one, or host one. This is the protection that matters most, because a public hangout is an arrangement to meet strangers in person. Hangouts with friends and invite-only hangouts work normally, and a hangout you're part of can't be turned into a public one.
  • No personalised advertising. Your activity is never used to choose the ads you see, and this cannot be switched on: not by you, and not by agreeing to anything. We don't show you the advertising consent screen or Apple's tracking prompt at all.
  • Your account starts private. When you sign up, your profile is private, only friends of your friends can send you a friend request, only friends can comment on your posts, and your friends and followers counts and your location are shown only to your friends. You can change these in Settings.
  • You're not suggested to adults. Adults won't see you in "People you may know".
  • Sexual content and nudity are banned outright. No nudity of any kind is allowed anywhere on Momint, for any account. Content promoting self-harm, suicide or eating disorders is banned and removed.
  • We keep your date of birth only while it's doing something. On your 18th birthday we delete it and just record that you're an adult.
  • Reporting is confidential. We never tell someone who reported them.

Tips for staying safe

  • Hangouts are real life. Never go to meet someone you've only met online without telling a trusted adult, and always meet in a public place.
  • Think before you share where you are. A photo, a hangout venue or a caption can tell people where you are.
  • You're in control. Make your account private, choose who can send you friend requests or comment on your posts, and block or report anyone who makes you uncomfortable. Only your friends can invite you to a hangout.
  • Never share intimate photos, and never share your sign-in code with anyone.
  • Something wrong? Report it in the app or email us. If you're in danger, call 999 (UK) or 112 (EU).
