The short version
Momint is for real moments with real people: the hangouts you plan, the photos you take, the memories you keep. Keep it that way.
- Be kind. Disagree without being cruel.
- Keep it legal.
- Respect people's privacy, especially the people in your photos and at your hangouts.
- Only post what you have the right to post.
- Look out for each other, in the app and in real life.
These guidelines apply everywhere on Momint: profiles, usernames, posts, captions, comments, hangouts (titles, descriptions, invites), hangout chats, polls, memories, and share links. They sit alongside our Terms of Service.
Momint is for people aged 16 and over, everywhere it is available. These guidelines are written for a service that includes 16 and 17-year-olds, so some rules are stricter than they would be on an adults-only service.
What's not okay
Harassment and bullying
Don't target people. That includes:
- insulting, humiliating or mocking someone, repeatedly or in a pile-on,
- sending unwanted messages, invites or friend requests after someone has made it clear they're not interested,
- encouraging others to harass someone,
- sharing content meant to shame someone (for example, an embarrassing photo posted to hurt them),
- creating accounts to get around a block.
Hate and abuse
Don't attack people for who they are. No content that promotes hatred, violence or discrimination against people because of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion or belief, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, or other protected characteristics. No slurs, dehumanising language, or hateful symbols used to intimidate.
Threats and violence
- No threats to hurt anyone, including "jokes" that read as real threats.
- No content that glorifies or encourages violence, or celebrates attacks.
- No terrorist or violent extremist content, and no support for proscribed organisations.
- No graphic violence or gore posted to shock.
Sexual content and nudity
- No pornography or sexually explicit content.
- No nudity at all, anywhere on Momint, for any account, whether it's sexual or not. Because 16 and 17-year-olds use Momint, there is no adults-only space where it would be allowed.
- No sexual messages, invites or requests to anyone who hasn't welcomed them.
- Never any sexual content involving, or sexual contact with, anyone under 18.
Child sexual exploitation and abuse
Zero tolerance. This includes:
- any sexualised image, video or text involving a child, real or computer-generated,
- grooming: befriending a child to sexually exploit them, including trying to move a conversation somewhere more private or arrange to meet,
- sexual extortion ("sextortion"),
- anything that sexualises children, even without nudity.
We remove it, close the account, and report it to the UK's National Crime Agency. If you see it, report it to us, and don't share it further, even to "expose" it.
Intimate images without consent
- Never share, or threaten to share, intimate or sexual images of someone without their consent. This is a crime in the UK.
- That includes images that have been edited, "deepfaked" or made with AI.
- No "upskirting", secret filming, or images taken in private places.
If this has happened to you, report it to us. In the UK you can also contact the Revenge Porn Helpline, and StopNCII.org can help stop images spreading.
Suicide, self-harm and eating disorders
No content that encourages, promotes or gives instructions for suicide, self-harm, or eating disorders. Talking about how you're feeling, or about recovery, is not banned; we just won't host content that could push someone towards harm.
If you're struggling, you're not on your own. In the UK and Ireland you can call Samaritans for free, any time, on 116 123, or text SHOUT to 85258. Under 19 in the UK? Childline is on 0800 1111. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999 (UK) or 112 (EU).
Dangerous activities
- No content that encourages dangerous stunts or challenges likely to cause serious injury.
- No content that promotes or explains how to misuse drugs, alcohol, or other harmful substances, especially aimed at young people.
- Don't organise hangouts for dangerous or illegal activities.
Illegal activity and regulated goods
- No selling, buying or arranging illegal drugs, weapons, or other illegal goods and services.
- No fraud, scams, or content that facilitates crime.
- No content that breaks the law where you are or in the UK.
Impersonation and fake accounts
- Be yourself. Don't pretend to be another person, brand or organisation.
- Don't use someone else's photos as your profile picture to deceive people.
- Parody and fan accounts must be clearly labelled as such.
- One personal account per person. Don't create accounts to get around a suspension or a block.
Spam, scams and platform manipulation
- No spam: mass friend requests, repeated invites, or copy-paste messages.
- No fake engagement: buying or trading likes, followers or comments, or using bots or automation.
- No phishing, fake giveaways, or attempts to get people's login codes. Momint will never ask you for your sign-in code. Anyone who does is trying to take your account.
- Don't try to break, overload or reverse-engineer Momint or get around its limits.
Momint automatically limits accounts that send an unusual number of friend requests, join or create an unusual number of hangouts in a short time, or have most of their friend requests declined. These limits are temporary (up to 24 hours). While one lasts, the account can't send friend requests or join or create hangouts, and its profile, posts and hangouts are hidden from other people.
Privacy and doxxing
- Don't share someone's private information without permission: home address, phone number, email, school or workplace, financial or ID documents, or their location.
- Don't post screenshots of private hangout chats to shame or expose people.
- Don't share a friends-only or invite-only hangout's details (like its address) publicly without the host's okay.
- If someone asks you to take down a photo of them, please listen. If they report it to us, we'll review it.
- Never share where someone is right now, or information that could reveal where a child is, with people they don't know.
Copyright and intellectual property
Only post what you made or have permission to share. See our copyright policy.
Hangouts happen in real life
Hangouts turn online plans into real meetups, so a few extra rules:
- Be honest about your hangout. The title, time, place and description should match what's actually happening.
- Hosts: you're responsible for the hangout you create. Don't invite people to anything illegal or unsafe. If alcohol or other age-restricted activities are involved, make that clear and don't invite anyone under the legal age.
- Meeting new people: meet in public places, tell a friend where you're going, and leave if something feels wrong. A photo, a venue or a caption can give away where you are.
- Photos at hangouts: photos in a hangout's shared memory are visible to everyone going. Think before you upload photos of people who didn't expect to be photographed, and respect requests to remove them.
- Under 18? Public hangouts aren't available to you at all — you won't see them, and you can't join or host one. That's deliberate: a public hangout is an arrangement to meet people you may not know. For hangouts with friends, never go to meet someone you've only met online without telling a trusted adult, and always meet in a public place.
Reporting
If you see something that breaks these guidelines:
- In the app: open the person's profile, the hangout, or the post's menu and tap Report. Choose a reason and add details.
- By email: safety@momintapp.com with the subject line "Report", including the share link or username and what's wrong. You can use email even if you don't have a Momint account.
- In an emergency, contact the police first: 999 in the UK, 112 in the EU.
You can report an account, a post, a comment, a memory, a photo, a video, a hangout or a single chat message, and the report records which item it was.
You can also block someone (they can't see your content or interact with you, and it removes any friend or follow connection) or mute them (you stop seeing their posts; they're not told). Muting is under Settings > Suppressed users.
Full details: Reporting content and making complaints.
What happens if someone breaks the rules
We look at what happened, how serious it is, whether it was deliberate, and whether it's happened before. Depending on that, we may:
- remove the content, or stop it being shown to other people,
- limit features for a while (for example, sending friend requests or joining hangouts),
- warn the account,
- suspend the account temporarily,
- close the account permanently and stop the person creating new ones,
- report it to the police or the National Crime Agency, where the law requires it or someone's safety is at risk.
For the most serious harms (child sexual exploitation, credible threats, terrorism, sharing intimate images without consent), we go straight to account closure and reporting, without warnings.
When we take action on your content or account, we'll tell you what we did and why, unless doing so would put someone at risk or break the law.
Think we got it wrong?
You can ask us to look again. Reply to the message we sent you, or email safety@momintapp.com with the subject line "Appeal". A person who wasn't involved in the original decision will review it, and we'll aim to reply within 14 days. If we got it wrong, we'll restore your content or account.
See Reporting content and making complaints for the full appeals process.
Changes
We'll update these guidelines as Momint grows. When we make important changes, we'll let you know in the app.
